  Journal club is coming! In this JC, we invite Qingfeng Wu(吴青峰), from Xu Zhang’s lab and Chenyan Ma(马晨燕) , from Xiaobin Yuan’s lab here to introduce basic knowledge of development and share their own opinions on the development, including “the process of embryonic neurogenesis, neuritogenesis, migration, axon pathfinding, synapse formation, synaptic plasticity, adult neurogenesis and incorporation of new-born neurons”. Below is a brief introduction of the topic from them: 
  1 The process of the neural development and neurodegerative disease  Qingfeng Wu(吴青峰) From Xu Zhang's lab
  I will introduce the role of cytoskeletion and cytoskeleton associated proteins during the process of neural development and neurodegenerative disease. From cradle to grave, the neurons existing in our brain undergo the process of embryonic neurogenesis, neuritogenesis, migration, axon pathfinding, synapse formation, synaptic plasticity, adult neurogenesis and incorporation of new-born neurons. After traveling a long way throughout our life, our sad and old neurons have to walk through the valley of the shadow of death because of disease and aging. The cytoskeletion including actin, microtubule and intermediate filaments (neurofilament) and cytoskeleton associated proteins are involved in almost every stages of neural development. At least 20 additional neurodegenerative disorders with the exception of Alzheimer's disease are associated with neurofibrillary tangles, hyperphosphorylated tau (one of the most famous microtubule associated proteins), and impaired memory and cognition. Not only will we discuss how the neurons from our brain lead their happy life, but I will introduce the hot and illusive topics that are worthwhile studying for your next several years. Moreover, we'll gather together to ask a few basic questions and try to figure out the solution. Different kinds of readout and different modes of underlying mechanism will also be discussed. Chenyan Ma will give you a talk about adult neurogenesis as well. It must be very interesting.  
  2 adult neurogenesis    Chenyan Ma(马晨燕) From Xiaobing Yuan's lab
  Since the topic is about cytoskeleton, I will mainly focus on the role of cytoskeleton in neurogenesis. Precisely, I will introduce the division mode regulation which plays the fundamental role in the nervous system development. Strikingly, what we have known about the division model is just a tip of the iceberg. Without too much detail, I will introduce to you the possible mechanisms and the unsol8ved questions. Adult neurogenesis will be mentioned a little bit.
