In a recent study published in Neuron, Dr. WANG Wei’s lab at the Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences studied how local high-resolution information may in fact be conserved from early to intermediate areas of the visual hierarchy in an animal model of vision that is closest to our own, the macaque monkey.
Meet Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua, the First Monkey Clones Produced by Method that Made Dolly (2018-1-25)
The first primate clones made by somatic cell nuclear transfer are two genetically-identical long-tailed macaques born recently at the Institute of Neuroscience. Researchers named the newborns Zhong Zhong and Hua Hua.
Researchers Find a Bi-Sexual Layout of the Brain for Sex-Typical Behaviors (2018-1-19)
In a recent study published in Nature Communications entitled “Medial preoptic area in mice is capable of mediating sexually dimorphic behaviors regardless of gender”, WEI and colleagues in Dr. XU Xiaohong’s lab showed unexpectedly that a well-known sexually dimorphic brain nucleus can drive both male-typical and female-typical behaviors.

A recent study published in Nature Neuroscience demonstrated that the transcription of multiple genes in the brain can be simultaneously activated usingCRISPR–dCas9-activator transgenic mice. This work was completed by researchers in Dr. YANG Hui’s Lab.

New Brake for Synaptic Vesicle Docking and Movement Controlling (2017-11-3)
A recent study carried out by Dr.Tan et al from Dr. XIONG Zhiqi’s laboratory, at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences, showed that PRRT2 is a presynaptic protein that interacts with components of SNARE complex and down-regulates its formation.
Monitoring Whole Brain Neural Activity in Freely Swimming Larval Zebrafish by Advanced Imaging and Tracking Techniques (2017-10-11)
A new research from the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology, CAS, reported on a novel volume imaging and 3D tracking technique that monitors whole brain neural activity in freely swimming larval zebrafish. This study was carried out collaboratively between Dr. WANG Kai and Dr. WEN Quan.
A Role of Autophagy in Regulating Axonal Development (2017-8-25)
A recent study published in Autophagy demonstrated that Mir505-3p regulated axonal development by targeting Atg12 and autophagy pathway. This work was performed by researchers in Dr. ZHOU Yuxun’s team at the Donghua University and Dr. QIU Zilong’s Lab at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences.This work provided another evidence supporting the role of autophagy in neural development.
Scientists Identify Central Neural Circuit for Itch Sensation (2017-8-18)
A recent study carried out by Dr. SUN Yangang’s lab discovered a central neural circuit that is critical for transmitting the itch signal. The study was published in Science.
Pre-synaptic Cadherin/Catenin Complexes Drive Post-Synaptic Dendritic Spine Stabilization in vivo (2017-6-22)
A recent study entitled “A critical role of pre-synaptic cadherin/catenin/p140Cap complexes in stabilizing spines and functional synapses in the neocortex” from Dr. YU Xiang’s lab at the Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences was published in Neuron on June 21, 2017. The effect of the cadherin/catenin requires p140Cap —— a novel β-catenin interacting partner.
Generating Complete Knockout Mice and Monkey by Optimized CRISPR (2017-6-7)
A recent study published in Cell Research demonstrated that single gene or multiple genes could be nearly 100% deleted in all cells of CRISPR/Cas9-injected mice and monkeys, using a modified “C-CRISPR” approach.
